Project Objectives

The Challenge

We were given a text by Georges Perec entitled “Brief Notes on the Art and Manner of Arranging One’s Books.” In the format of a book, we were tasked to include the Perec text with our own list of books while incorporating data collected from Amazon.

This assignment was intended to explore issues such as:

tone, voice, legibility and composition while also considering these contrasts:

Text that is supplied vs. text that we generate with our list of books (content), Narrative vs. database (structure), Authored by Georges Perec vs. authored by me (voice)

The Solution

Every year, the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom records hundreds of attempts to have books removed from libraries and classrooms around the country.

Book banning is not an uncommon concept even in modern society despite laws and individual freedoms that are supposed to prevent it. Book banning is rarely without opposition from educators and people who oppose intellectual suppression.

This publication is a collection of 17 novels and books that have been challenged or banned over the last century in the US alone. The books in question are organized in various ways either by color, size, author, title, year of publication, ISBN, lexile level, etc.
